Game FAQ - Dragon Knight on ComfortablyDumb.net

Q) I thought this was a game? It looks...not like a game.

A) Dragon Knight is what one would consider a web-based "MUD". It is a style of game,
however its look-and-feel is more like a BBS (bulletin board system) text game.

Q) What in the hell is a "MUD"?

A) MUD stands for "multi user dungeon". These types of games were WILDLY popular (like WoW popular)
in the early days of computer-based communication. At the time, the internet itself was still
more of a tool for the government, military, and universities. Us regular folk would seek out (through
computer related periodicals and user groups) and dial directly into, people's personal electronic
bulletin board systems. Among other things, these BBSes hosted the first types of online games
known as MUDs. Players would explore dungeons, fight monsters, loot treasure, and compete in rank
with other players.

Q) So what possesses you to think that anyone other than older computer nerds would want
to play a game like this?

A) Three shrinks and four parents haven't figured out what possesses me to think. That aside, I thought
it would be fun to host an entertaining game that was a bit of a throw-back (in my opinion) to
the game styles of old.

Q) Enough reminiscing, how do I play this game?

A) After registering and confirming your account, you are presented with the main game screen. This
screen consists of the following:

"Character"
This area contains your player name, level, Experience (Exp), Gold, Gold in the Bank, Energy (for training)
Health Points (HP), Mana Points (MP), and Travel Points (TP).

"Inventory"
Shows your current Weapon, Armor, and Shield. Below that are your three inventory slots.

"Spells"
Pretty self explanatory. Click these to cast spells.

"Location" Area:
Four-way directional buttons labeled North, East, South, and West. Pushing these buttons moves the
player one meter in the applicable direction. You will see your position change in the "Latitude and
Longitude" area directly above the four-way directional buttons. Above THAT, you will see your current
status. These can include "Exploring", "In Town", and others.

"Towns"
This area shows a list of the towns you have visited, or the towns you have purchased maps for. Clicking
on these links will take you directly to that town, although it will cost you some TP.

"Functions"
This area contains links for this FAQ, the in-game mail system, your profile administration page, a link to the
forum, and many more things.

Q) I keep moving in a certain direction, and it just gives me the "nothing has happened" speech.

A) Thats the way exploring goes. You explore in order to find items or loot, fight monsters, or find
other towns. Sometimes there is nothing to find in a particular area. If there were items or monsters
in every part of the map, there would either be a lot of overly-rich players, or a lot of dead ones.
Both possibilities ruin the playabilty of the game, and the suspense of exploring.

Q) The "Babble Box" is a bit confusing and cluttered.

A) We know. Thats okay though because there are always the forums. The forums provide a much more easier
way to converse and communicate with other players. You will have to register your account on the forums
as well. This is done for multiple reasons, however the biggest one is that it cuts down on spammers.

Q) Someone was online and put in the babble box that the game was being moved to a different URL. I went
there and it wasn't the same game. Are you moving?

A) NO. There are some sites that don't like other people hosting games for the enjoyment of others, so they
visit those sites and post/spam a link to theirs. They usually pre-empt this by saying the site is moving,
is broken, is worse than theirs, etc. This is in terrible form and is typically only used by those
desperate for traffic. While it is not within our rights to tell you not to go there, we can't vouch for
the validity of the site linked, nor do we guarantee it won't install or execute software that could
harm your machine (trojan, virus, adware, etc). Please report this type of behavior to the staff by
posting the occurrence on the forums, or emailing ID 1 (KaiserSouse). Please include the user who posted
the link, as well as the entire text that the offending player posted. THANK YOU!!! Reports that are found
to be valid will resulter in the reporter gaining some sort of monetary (in-game) or attribute increase.
